about

"The figure of the ‘Obby ‘Oss visits the coastal town of Padstow, in Cornwall, each May Day. Directed and jostled on by costumed ‘teasers’, two ‘Oss’s parades the town in a ‘beating the bounds’ fashion, followed by the ‘Mayers’, all singing the ‘Morning Song’. Come the evening, the two ‘Oss’s meet at the Maypole, whereupon they retire to their stables and the crowd sing of their death. The ‘Obby ‘Oss is then resurrected the following year on May Day eve, to walk the town’s streets once more". - Grey Malkin. 2019.
