1.
Silver and golden heads shed a little hair each day A bright woollen strand from a Yuletide jumper All in a domed nest of thorny twigs are laid With shiny sweet wrappers and other magpie plunder I bid them good morning in case of misfortune Is it two for joy or a pair for mirth? Perched on a wire and wall ready to caution Lest any creature threaten their life on earth Eight you live and nine you die Ten for devouring a bogey pie Each number a meaning for every magpie But beware of thirteen for it’s the devil himself There are no birdbrains here, only lightning perception Grief and respect for their own who have fallen Each offers grass for a wreath of affection They swoop to the vigil when they hear the calling

Winged Sages 04:51
Save us from witches and warlocks And langnebbit things Save us from winged sages Misfortune they bring Cross myrtle, ling and moss by the Halladale One whistler flies by the moon so pale Under the eaves, and his bill is held apart To carry off the bairn with sin in his heart As the river flows out into the bay Fishermen prepare their nets by the break of day Three whistlers cry to foretell a storm Should they leave the harbour, they may not return the morn O'er the bleak and lonely flows Where plover and dunlin roam Six whistlers endlessly fly and call To find another and bring the end of us all

about

This special edition limited lathe single is a preview to an album of songs on bird folklore by a duo formed specially for the project.
Alison O'Donnell is an incredibly prolific singer-songwriter from Dublin who first came to prominence with cult acid folk band Mellow Candle and has played with Flibbertigibbet, Head South By Weaving and United Bible Studies.
Gayle Brogan is a creator of slowly-unfolding, ritualistic psychedelic hymnals that draw heavily on the landscape and natural world. She is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, arranger and producer who has recorded for 20 years under the alias Pefkin. She is also a member of electric psych folk explorers Meadowsilver and is the dark energy behind the Burd Ellen sound.
The single is issued by Sonido Polifonico as a limited lathe cut and comes in a beautifully packaged edition with Lino cuts, badges, ceramic tokens and other gorgeous artefacts.
