Buckenham

from Black Mass by Pefkin

/

about

Buckenham was written after a visit to the rook roost there on Boxing Day a few years ago. I've been twice now. The first time was in pouring rain and the birds waited til it was dark before flying directly overhead to roost, an endless stream of black wings and corvid cacophony. The second time was November 2015 and a very different spectacle. The birds flew into the roost site while it was still dusk, crimson clouds fading to the visit while I stood alone in a clump of nettles.
